Honduras
We have been in Honduras since Saturday and have been having an amazing trip. The flights were pretty uneventful though Moriah got pretty flight sick by on the last plane ride from New Jersey to San Pedro Sula, Honduras. Getting off the plane, we were greeted with a blast of hot, humid air and we haven't left it(the air) behind yet. It is such a different climate than what we are used to in Central Oregon.
There is so much to talk about and tell you. I would have to say that Honduras is nothing like what I thought it would be and yet is so like I thought it would be. I have taught 2 art classes so far, one to the MK's that was on art journaling and the other was at the children's center and working with the littler kids. We painted mugs and colored a picture using crayons and tissue paper. It was really great. We have also toured the Hospital Loma de Luz facilities and grounds as well as the farm, which is where our friends work. Yesterday we swam in the Caribbean twice and it was refreshing.
This morning I went with Trish to work in the eye clinic at the hospital. It was very interesting to meet some of the patients. I also got to watch a surgery where a guy was getting his toe cut off due to diabetes. There are lots and lots of issues with diabetes that are seen at the hospital.
This afternoon, as you can see, is mellow. We are trying to wait out the heat a little bit.
Tomorrow will be a busy day because we will be going into some villages and I have one more art class to teach. We will leave early Friday morning to head back into San Pedro Sula for our flight out on Saturday. Trish has some other adventures we will go on as we drive back to the city on Friday.
For now, we wish you well and hope you are happy. I will blog more as I have time. If you would like to see photos, you can check out my flickr site. I have loaded quite a few on.
Adios!
